Preachy Germany’s Black Coal Consumption Skyrockets 15.4% in 2010 – Due To Cold!

Face it, Germany’s elitst leaders think that by righteously adopting positions of “protecting the climate” and the “responsible” use of energy, they’ll be able to assume the role as the world’s moral leaders.

The pious, like Chancellor Angela Merkel and all the leaders of all other parties, media, etc., all insist they have truly learned the lessons of history and are now ready to take on moral leadership of the world and exercise the authority to admonish the rest of the world for its wasteful energy use.

Almost daily does the German public hear of a new energy-savings plan announced by these annoyingly pious and wise leaders on how to be even more responsible, and demands to make even more energy sacrifices, e.g. like shutting down power plants, installing more solar and wind farms, eliminating light bulbs, imposing tougher auto emissions standards, mandating ethanol, regulating people’s fireplaces, plans to increase tax on energy, and even master plans for the great transformation of world society. The list is endless.

Readers here would think that Germany surely will soon be a carbon-free paradise, an island of nature and morality. Well, think again. According to the Swiss online ee-news, Germany’s primary energy consumption spiked 4.6%  in 2010 – due to the “economic rebound and cooler weather“. EE-News writes:

The higher energy consumption led to an increase in energy-dependent CO2 emissions. According to the calculations of the AG Energy Management,  there were very little changes in the energy mix as a whole and about two thirds of the energy increase came from carbon-based energy sources. The increase in energy-dependent CO2 emissions was at about 4%.”

While Germany’s leaders demand other countries reduce their carbon footprints and be more responsible with the use of energy, they have no qualms about their own growing consumption. Especially burning anthracite coal, which James Hansen compared to death trains, shot up 15.4%. The use of anthracite coal increased even much more than the “booming” renewable energies, which increased only a relatively weak 9.9%.

Yet, let’s not blame the average citizen’s desire to stay warm, and to work and use more energy to fill customer orders. I say be happy they are burning more and not less. German products are solutions that make other people’s lives easier all over the world. So hopefully Germans will consume even more in the future, and so continue producing more technology, machinery and solutions to fulfill human needs for comfort and dignity. Indeed, using more energy to help others is arguably a moral obligation.

Here are some of consumption increase statistics (%):

Petroleum: +1.3%
Natural gas: + 4.2%
Anthracite coal: + 15.4%
Brown coal: +0.2
Renewables: + 9.9%

I prefer hypocrisy and pragmatism of the Germans to the puritanical British approach: coal is bad, in 4 years the LCPD [large combustion plant directive] means our political elite will meekly cave in, shut our major coal power stations and thus willingly put the lights out across Britain.

Yep, hypocrisy is better than obeisance and blind adherence to a science fiction fantasy [AGW] by brain-dead politicians who haven’t an effin clue about a reliable energy policy.

Like Pontius Pilate, they wash their hands in public and tearfully wail; “it’s all Europe’s fault, there is nothing we can do!”

    Yes there is!!

If any of our British politicians had a pair, they would: tell the politburo in Brussels to ‘go forth and multiply’!

I love how you say that. 🙂

Thanks Dirk…………… I don’t PG on my case for using profanities!

BTW, i found the cornerstone of AGW, water vapor feedback, in the IPCC AR4 (purely by chance while searching something else).

It’s such an impenetrable page of prose that i have to think of the German saying “Wenn Du nicht überzeugen kannst, dann verwirre wenigstens” – “If you can’t convince, at least try to confuse.”

But it boils down to: no temperature increase, no feedback.

Yeah, that was on WUWT. But he pulverized the LEDs and found toxics inside, which is a kind of “Well, duh” study. The CFL’s only need to be switched on.

    You missed nuclear. Up 4.1%.

With the premature shut down of about a quarter of nuclear generating capacity there’s a shortfall of about 400 PJ for the year.

That shortfall has to be made up either by imports, which’d increase by 200% or the new coal-fired generating capacity coming online over the next year (about 11 GW, IIRC). So as much as a 25% more coal being burnt by Germans for electricity (mostly). And another 8% or thereabouts increase in CO2 emissions.

All without a single, additional Wh of electricity being supplied.
Looks like 2011 will be an excellent year for CO2.

Oh look into the gallery that comes with the article – the usual “dire consequences of Climate Change”. Here is “a dried out Mangrove swamp”
      http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-66961-6.html

Shouldn’t rising sea levels inundate that swamp?
And another one – “Extreme decline of arctic ice in the last years”

Conveniently they omit the dates on the pictures! Der Spiegel truely knows no shame.

I will open a bottle of red Krim Sekt on the day they close shop.

Der Spiegel is really distorting facts again.

“Auswanderung sei nicht die Hauptstrategie der Menschen: … Das zeigt sich nun auch in Japan, wo die Betroffenen aus der verstrahlten Region in den Süden des Landes gehen.”

Translates roughly to “Emigration isn’t the prime strategy of humans: … That is evident now in Japan where those from the irradiated region are moving to the South of the country.”

      What irradiated region?

      http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/tsunamiupdate01.html

      1. DirkH

Bernd, i did see that but didn’t think it worth a mention. Here in germany we get bombarded with such distortions day in day out. By now, my fellow Germans must have the most distorted worldview – unlike me they don’t track international news or blogs. Which gives me an advantage… so i’m not too unhappy about this Soviet style Gleichschaltung here… No good English word for that, “bringing in line of the media” maybe, only that they do it voluntarily.

        1. DirkH

That would be “Freiwillige Gleichschaltung” then, deliberately aping the party line (which party? doesn’t matter. They’re all the same here. I feel like i’m living in the people’s cube land

    Open letter to Al Gore

Anthropogenic global warming is a total fraud, an international effort of power and money grabbing based on the marxist concept of “wealth redistribution”.
On April 28 1975 Time magazine had on its front cover the title THE BIG FREEZE!!, with an article, signed by climate scientists, concluding that the Earth is cooling to the point it will all be covered in ice and all living creatures will die of freezing.
The “scientists” even came up with a solution: collect all the ashes and residues generated by coal-burning power plants and spreat it over the North Pole, to capture the heat generated by the sun….
This could only have come from sick, perverted minds, but at the time it was viewed as a real option.
After a few years, when it obviously turned out that such a theory was nonsense, the so called climate scientists, in their quest for government grants, have invented a new fantasy, that of global warming……the world is warming due to us, human beings and we are all going to die unless we give up all of our liberties to one big world government which is going to regulate every single aspect of our lives, how many times to flush our toilets, what kind of cars to drive, where, for what reason and how far, how many children to have , what kind of food to eat, etc.
In 1992 Al Gore said that “the time for a debate is over, the science is settled”…..
This obviously is a lie for the time for a debate is never over and the science is far from being settled.
Science does not work as a democracy , meaning that in science, the majority does not rule as it does in a democracy.
If 1000 scientists have a debate and 999 of them agree on the subject, but only one of them disagree, it may very well turn out , as it has so many times in history, that the lone scientist is the only one that is right.
After 20 years of advancing a false theory based on fraudulent data, the “scientists” noticed that the planet is not warming, so they changed the name of their theory yet again from global warming to “Climate Change”, just in case, to have all possibilities covered.
Soon the whole thing will be unequivocally exposed for a premeditated fraud.
People who perpetrated this scam, will then be held responsible for the enormous psychological, social and financial damage that their actions have caused.
There must be parents out there whose children have suffered mental trauma because of this great scam.
All these parents should get together and get a pit bull of a lawyer to file a class action law suit in a civil court and take the global warming crooks to the cleaners.

“New figures show the lights may go out sooner than we thought” from Christoper Booker

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/8470256/New-figures-show-the-lights-may-go-out-sooner-than-we-thought.html

“Figures published last week reveal that the moment when Britain’s lights start going out may be much closer than previously predicted. Thanks in part to the hammering they took in the abnormal cold of last winter, six large coal-fired power stations which supply a fifth of Britain’s average electricity needs have now used up more than half of the 20,000 running hours they are each allowed under the EU’s Large Combustion Plants directive. When they reach that limit they will have to shut down.”
