4th International Climate And Energy Conference in Munich Germany

Skepticism of junk climate science has taken root even in Germany. Already the 4th International International Climate And Energy Conference is taking place in Munich on November 25-26, 2011.

Leading scientists, experts and critics of the AGW science and man-made climate change are gathering to present the newest results. Mark it down on your calendar!

New speakers this year will include:
– Andrew Montford
– Werner Kirstein
– Henrik Svensmark
– Chris Horner
– Piers Corbyn

They’ll be joining an impressive line-up of speakers like Nir Shaviv and Jan Veizer. Last year I attended the conference in Berlin and I hope to attend this year too.

This year’s line up of speakers looks even better, and the program (still preliminary and likely to change some) has been expanded to 2 full days. Read more at EIKE. Here’s how the program looks right now:

    An impressive roster, indeed.
The lynchpin will be the reporting on the conference in the MSM over here. Either they ignore it completely – with state television (ARD & ZDF) and all local newspapers – the two main sources “reliable information” for all non-surfers here (including the academic intelligentsia) that’s a safe bet.
The way the larger papers or Deutschlandfunk radio will report show the measure to which climate scepticism has taken root in Germany. If they employ terms like “Ewiggestrige” [“hidebound” turned up to eleven; Journalese for “Nazi”, in rare cases Communist hardliners] or “unbelehrbar” [“unteachable”; Journalese for the Pope, at least for the moment], it hasn’t.

But they are communicating the science, commanding the narrative: the Fourth Power deciding what reality looks like… Right at the moment, this is changing rapidly (see the 150,000+ protests against the proposed European Stability Mechanism – only Die Welt covering it, belatedly). There are already journalists taking AGW apart – most affiliated with the Achse des Guten – Michael Miersch, Dirk Maxeiner, Klaus Gärtner; they are just tucked away in the back pages – and write for papers no good Lefite would touch with a pole – NZZ, die Welt. Some of the rest, either true believers or obedient party line lickspittles – must be feeling rather like their Eastern counterparts after June 1989 – either denounce the charade and be relegated to covering Miss Sauerkraut from Zeroville or keep up the facade and look absolutely foolish sooner or later. Not an enviable choice.

Ulrich, the media situation in Germany is hopeless, and the Warmists love it. Our state television (ARD and ZDF) comes more expensive per citizen than any other in the world, and they demand another rise.

These public media people and their followers think of themselves as being superior to the American media – one Warmist told me “In the USA, all the media are right-wing”. They are talking about something they don’t understand because they never read American media themselves, but they read misrepresentations in the Sueddeutsche or Der Spiegel – they get the world presented through a socialist-tinted looking glass and don’t notice.

They also think that they can trust their pied pipers and don’t need to check for themselves. Germany is like a huge Jonestown.

OMG Dirk it’s worse than we thought – at least here in America. I mean, Germans in general believe that American Media is right wing? That is nuts. Sure there is Fox News and it has its followers – IMHO their facts are straight but the presentation puts even me, a lifelong conservative, off a bit so I don’t pay them much attention.

Newsweek, Time, Scientific American (owned by a German company), The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, all, all far left. In what fantasy world could anyone on this Earth think American media is “Right wing”.

        1. DirkH

It’s true; the exact words of a VW engineer I talked to. He’s not THAT dumb; he’s to a large degree misguided by the mistranslations and misinterpretations of the German left-wing journalists he trusts and reads.

But what’s maybe worse is that Germans generally think in a Left-Right dichotomy only; they miss the Authoritarian-Libertarian dimension entirely (so nearly all our parties are paternalistic and get away with it).

It’s a very underdeveloped discourse here; not only in the media.

No discounts for polar bears wanting to come in from the cold? 😉

  4. Dirk the American

You do realize that NOBODY at this conference has disproven the proven scientific fact of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) or the infinitely more impressive credentials of climate scientists at the IPCC, right?

Here are people who are actually qualified to speak on the damaging effects of endless human CO2 emissions:

    Myles Allen
    Richard Alley
    Svante Arrhenius
    Phil Jones
    Michael Mann
    Gordon McBean
    Veerabhadran Ramanathan
    Stephen H. Schneider
    Inez Fung
    Joanna Haigh
    Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier
    Edward Norton Lorenz
    Syukuro Manabe
    Hans Joachim Schellnhuber
    Jean Jouzel
    Dr Benjamin Santer
Dr. Julienne Stroeve – National Snow and Ice Data Center

When American media gives equal time to UFO-alien-hypothesis disclosure as it gives to religious issues – even though there is ZERO proof of “gods” but quite a bit of evidence (not fully proved, of course, nevertheless) for the alien hypothesis for many UFOs,
and when American media (esp. C-span) gives as much airtime to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and their videos showing the horrors behind factory farms as it does to commericals for meat or the AEI,
only then can American media be called “fair and balanced”.

Until then, it is EXTREMELY rightwing.

    1. DirkH

“or the infinitely more impressive credentials of climate scientists at the IPCC”

That’s quite the statement. Dirk, you must have been sleeping under a rock for the last few years.

He forgot the /sarc on /sarc off.

  5. Ulrich Elkmann

Hmm, just where did Arrhenius speak of the damaging effects of CO2? In our version of history, he looked forward to palm beaches in Scandinavia wheat fields in Greenland – if industrialization was increased relentlessly (as he hoped); otherwise that effect would be completely swamped by volcanism.
Fourier and Lorentz also seem susceptible to actual scientific procedures and assessments. Assembling these worthy gents in a jury might result in “The Devil and Daniel Webster”.
