Veteran Meteorologists Warn Of “Bitter Cold” …”Areas Under The Gun” As Models Project Cold Polar Blasts!

Yesterday we wrote about a study that told us the data do not support that weather blockings are occurring more often than they used to. Some alarmist media and scientists have claimed that the heavy snowfalls in the Alps are happening due to manmade global warming.

Swiss meteorologist: Such snowfalls “nothing unique” for Alps

Yesterday one of Europe’s most high profile meteorologists, Jörg Kachelmann, penned an opinion piece at t-online.de reminding the public that heavy snow events in the Alps, such as the one we are now experiencing, are in fact nothing unique and that it is not a catastrophe.

In the days ahead, many parts of the Alps are expecting up to another meter of new snow, yet, according to Kachelmann, this should not pose any problems to buildings and structures – if their construction indeed adhered to the applicable building codes.

“Nothing to do with climate change”

Kachelmann adds later in his t-online piece: “1. The snowfalls are nothing unique so far for the Alps. 2. They have nothing to do with climate change.”

The veteran Swiss meteorologist adds that the heavy snow in the Alps “are making people happy because they ensure the ski season will extend until Easter.”

Snow is in fact welcome

Moreover, they are good for the glaciers, and will help relieve the drought conditions seen in Europe last year. The Swiss meteorologist adds:

They [the snowfalls] are making the media happy as well because weather catastrophes get many clicks. However, the current weather situation is not a catastrophe. Human lives (except in the mentioned 0.1 percent problem) are only in danger if people behave inappropriately.”

Kachelmann also thinks the media overhype now taking place may be unnecessarily scaring people away from booking ski trips to the Alps, a region where massive amounts of snow are common.

Models suggest severe winter conditions

Meanwhile, German meteorologist Dominik Jung of wetter.net reported that a Russian “Beast from the East” looks to be in the works for Europe for the weeks ahead:

According to Jung, who cites US and European weather models, beginning January 20 much greater cold will be invading large parts of Europe. And by January 25, the cold conditions could deepen and become extreme.

Northern hemisphere “under the gun”

Also at Weatherbell, 40-year meteorologist Joe Bastardi backs Jung’s projected development, presenting a frigid chart at yesterday’s Daily Summary that shows the forecast 11-16 days out:

Cold to grip Europe, North America and Asia in the weeks ahead, models suggest.

Joe says:

Once this gets here, until March, these areas and these areas, are under the gun. Repetitive snow threats and bitter cold relative to averages, and it’s coming at the coldest time of the year.”

Yep, Joe and the guys at weatherbell were light years ahead of all the models in forecasting what is starting now. A private company who’s performance determines it’s revenue and survival verses government funded entities who’s performance or lack of it does not effect their funding.

But climate scientists (e.g. David Viner) told us snow was a thing of the past.
    What’s happening?

Nice video, that presenter is just so happy. I note that he uses http://www.meteociel.fr/ for his weather charts.
Probably for Germany the http://www.wetterzentrale.de would be a better choice as they have a wider range of major European and international models to choose from including —

ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts is an independent intergovernmental organization supported by most European nations based at Shinfield Park, Reading, United Kingdom.)

GFS (Global Forecast System, run by the United States’ National Weather Service (NWS))

ARPEGE (Action de Recherche Petite Echelle Grande Echelle for operational weather forecasting at Météo France.)

GEM (Global Environmental Multiscale Model, Recherche en Prévision Numérique (RPN), Meteorological Research Branch (MRB), and the Canadian Meteorological Centre (CMC))

ICON (Icosahedral Nonhydrostatic Model, based in Germany by Deutscher Wetterdienst)

    JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency)

NAVGEM (Navy Global Environmental Model, run by the United States Navy’s Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center)

GFS give one of the longest run time periods of all the models, with a forecast time running out to 384 hours from the start of the run.
This link get you to the GFS model http://www.wetterzentrale.de/en/topkarten.php?map=1&model=gfs&var=5&time=0&run=12&lid=OP&h=0&mv=0&tr=3

All the international and European model are forecasting very cold weather for most of Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. The forecasts indicate the cold starting to dig in by or before the January 17.
An end date for this cold weather is very difficult to discern as ALL weather models get less reliable after 10 days but this cold period seems to be indicated to last at least that long, and maybe much longer.

I see no temperature forecast of -20C or thereabouts. So, no severe cold.

Have you looked at all 21 iteration of the GFS ensemble as well as it’s ‘average’ and ‘parallel’ runs?
Remember that most model give 2m temperature as anomalies readings.

Here’s another view of the GFS 2m temperature data for Monday January 21.
      http://wxcharts.eu/charts/gfs/europe/charts/2mtemp_anom_20190113_12_186.jpg

Note that through Germany, Holland and France there are temperatures anomalies expected to be 4°C to 8°C below normal . So around -5°C to -10°C or lower over a very wide area.
Is that not cold enough for you?

Unfortunately, with these forecasts, the USA’s west coast stays on the sidelines. Help!
This gives relevance to our governor’s acceptance of the global warming beliefs. Washington’s governor seems to intend to ride his green leadership credentials to the Democratic nomination for POTUS. He doesn’t seem to have name recognition outside of WA State and likely won’t standout when 20+ hopefuls have declared. He is white and male, for example.

The Democrat run for the White House is starting to look like it’s going to make the S. American rush on our Southern border seem like amateur hour. My sympathies to you for having to live in such a socialist haven.

Congratulation Dr Tim Ball, some sanity has been restored.
However there are still some that “belongs in the state pen, not Penn. State”. Hopefully the truth will out, and this outrageous experiment in population control via governments’ non-science agencies and onerous government controls based on unfounded fears of CO2, can be defeated.

Yup, quite a few of the Daily and Weekly summaries have material on the cold that’s expected in Europe and the US, from when it starts shortly until March. I’m not looking forward to that. Here are the latest two, for future reference.

It’s cold up north during this time of year.

Once the snow gets there, it makes it difficult, time to go ice fishing.

Going to have to do some serious warming to match the past.
