New Tree Ring Study Shows Little Ice Age And Medieval Warm Period Were Global

A new paper here on the Jorge Montt Glacier at the Chilean Patagonia is out in Climate of the Past journal. What’s interesting is that this glacier is located in Chile – in South America, far away from the North Atlantic region.

A team of scientists studied tree rings from old trees recently exposed by the retreating Patagonian glaciers. Samples of these trees were dated using radiocarbon methods, yielding burial ages between 460 and 250 years ago.

Well guess what! The study confirms that the Little Ice Age existed in Chile too. Now remember how the high-sticking hockey team kept trying to have us believe that the Medieval Warm Period-Little Ice Age thing was a local phenomena, and not global? That claim is looking more and more like a real joke with every passing study.

The person who brought my attention to this paper is an expert geologist, and wishes to remain anonymous. He wrote me in an e-mail:

Amazing how globally widespread the ‘local North Atlantic’ Little Ice Age was in fact.”

And he quoted the paper’s abstract:

The dendrochronology and maps indicate that Glaciar Jorge Montt was at its present position before the beginning of the LIA, in concert with several other glaciers in Southern Patagonia, and reached its maximum advance position between 1650 and 1750 AD.”

No misprint there. It’s correct. Before the LIA the Chilean glaciers were at the same spot as the present position. Send a copy of that paper to Michael Mann and the rest of the climate clowns.

Woops! Trees; under a glacier – how did they get there? Very inconvenient trees for the consensus….

Occupy e-mails download; they gained it not via hacking/leak but by infiltrating and getting on the mailing lists.

Someone will have to produce a sequel to “An Inconvenient Truth”. Gotta’ happen! Perhaps the great Follywood team that produced and starred in the original would be interested in taking this project on for the ‘sake of truth in science and the education of the global masses’. Seems they could work in the aledged human impact on climate change, surely. One would think there’s a bit o’Green in it to be had for the eco-antreprenaur willing to take the bull by the horns and argue that there just might be another Mini-Ice Age coming and insolation made from recycled glass and/or paper is definitely the way to go. Every penny counts when your Green mansions and penthouses are burning megawatts by the minute, right Al?

Somebody told me our new protest movement, the Pirate Party, is neither left nor right. Well, they had no qualms making common cause with Attac and our communists from Die Linke to call for “Occupy Hamburg” (and all other German cities). Evidence that they’re an ordinary leftist splinter group hardens.

Very detailed analysis of the potential fuel savings through windpower, by the Dutch, using real data from Schiphol wind park, comes to the conclusion that wind power increases fuel usage. h/t Disko Troop

It only takes time and patience to collect all the data from history to show what we already knew but couldn’t prove to the satisfaction of the IPCC. Claiming it’s never been so warm is like the idiots who say we are the only life in the whole universe. It’s small minded and moronic. The sea level couldn’t have risen a foot or more per year 22,000 years ago if we only had extremes following a little more CO2 150 years ago, and to anyone with a brain it’s obvious the climate worldwide at the moment is totally unremarkable. These guys would crap themselves if we were in a real ice age, now that’s dangerous!

“..the idiots who say we are the only life in the whole universe…”: There at least we have no data yet, and the hypothesis that we are the only INTELLIGENT life in the universe can at least be argued for, seeing that the chances for a technical civilization capable as well as interested in communication depend on a staggering series of unlikely steps in the right direction to render the probability of it rather tenuous. This is the theory of the “Lonely Earth”. The whole issue is still a matter of personal preferences and one’s philosophical outlook – just as after Copernicus and Kepler and before Darwin the question of the “plurality of worlds” fell squarely into the realm of theology (God wouldn’t have WASTED all that space in the universe, wouldn’t he?).
With ancient climate and its consequences for the present, however, we are squarely in the realm of empirical science: we have empirical data, verifiable (i.e. testable) theories, and the results have direct consequences – putting up and paying for all sorts of desperate “last ditch” measures, calls for eco-dictatorship, relentless propaganda…or not. In short, even the “alien deniers” (“Scully, why don’t you want to believe?”) would be delighted to receive a call from E.T., whereas climate alarmists are, respectively, claiming that not only that They Are for Real, but that they are up to no good: “Yet, across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us” (H.G.Wells, The War of the Worlds, ch.1). In fact, NASA has just begun claiming that…

The eight biggest German municipal utilities announce a plan to invest 10 bn EUR into 10 GW of new power plants; coming online in 10 years; fossil fuel driven. (They will also buy a whole lot of wind turbines they say; but we know which part of the plan will generate the 10 GW… the wind turbines only pump subsidies; electrons not so much…). German media frames it as “challenging the big greedy (ex)nuclear companies”.

Just one more unsurprising data point.

BTW Have you heard about the Trenberth offer of a meeting and show-and-tell in Boulder in November? Of course, he thinks he can convert Anthony Watts in 45 minutes. WUWT!!!

I’m a little bit disappointed. I made the evilest choice at every step but I didn’t explode or anything; only a boring text appeared to reprimand me. They really need to make it more visually appealing.

          Green or dead right?

Guess I’m going to hell – no worries about AGW down there yippee!!!!!

Malaria Deaths fall 40% in last decade; did climate science not predict the opposite? Oh, nevermind.
