Munich Professor: Role Of Methane From Cows On Climate Exaggerated By A Factor Of 3 To 4!

The impact of ruminants on climate has been overestimated by a factor of 3 to 4, according to Prof. Dr. Dr. habil Wilhelm Windisch of the Technical University of Munich.ย

Going without beef burgers is not going to impact the climate anywhere near as much as some like to claim. This is even confirmed by the IPCC (see below).

Hat-tip: Klimaschau

Climate alarmists and closet vegetarians like to claim that methane produced by cows plays a huge role in climate change, and so people need to eat much less beef and other meats from ruminants. Bill Gates even wants people to turn to fake, “synthetic meats”. But it’s all mostly hype and hysteria.

Near 5%, not 20%

According to Prof. Windisch, as reported by the Bavarian Agricultural Weekly News of November 25, 2021, “The role of ruminants with regards to climate protection has up to now been overestimated by at least a factor of 3 to 4. An enormous climate contribution to climate warming has been falsely attributed to ruminants: 15 to 20%.”

That means in reality the so-called contribution is closer to just 5%.

Moreover, according to the Klimaschau, the number of ruminants in Germany has not risen, data show.ย  In 1873, Germany had a total of 16 million ruminants. But in 2010, that number was down to 13 million.

Also, whatever methane that cows do emit ends up getting broken down in a matter of just a few years, the Klimaschau reports. Thus the system remains in equilibrium and so there’s little impact on climate.

Confirmed by the IPCC 6th Report

According to gvf Agrar: “It often goes unmentioned that the climate gases from agriculture come from balanced biogenic cycles and not from fossil fuels that transport additional CO2 into the atmosphere. This was also stated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in the first volume of the sixth IPCC Assessment Report.”

    Only 5% of practically nothing?
There has been no actual proof that more CO2 causes warming. A scattering of thermometers (even with the data tampering) doesn’t amount to proof.

And if the effect of methane has been “overestimated by at least a factor of 3 to 4” what about the IPCC’s claim that doubling of CO2 would raise the temperature by 3.5โ„ƒ? That’s an overestimate of an overestimate of perhaps an overestimate.

What are the warmists going to do after culling the dairy herds? Are they then going to go after the millions of ruminant animals wandering the African Continent?

Wouldn’t mind if they went after termites ๐Ÿ™‚ Then again, in many cases they are useful in breaking down (waste) plant matter… (just stay away from my house)…

It was discussed here a few years back; the “fact chuckers” have been busy in-between, so the fact that termites (and probably other insects) are a HUGE producer of methane is most likely true…

I’m sure this is a great relief for the cows.

Since CH4 emission-absorption spectrum is in the emission-absorption spectrum of water vapor (WV concentration varies from 1% to 4% in the atmosphere), it cannot play the slightest role from a radiative point of view.

Thank goodness 60 million bison roaming the Great Plains of North America were slaughtered by the millions with Sharps 50 caliber rifle shot. Think of the outrageous amounts of methane emitted by all of those evil buffalo, it is an outrage, good thing that were reduced to a small herd in the frontier out there in the sweet grasses of Montana. Otherwise, all of those buffalo excretions would have ruined the ecology of the Great Plains.

The buffalo are still here along with millions of cattle, the carrying capacity of the Great Plains is now many fold, settlement with known ag practices introduced greater carrying capacity via human inputs.

Of course, indigenous people ran buffalo over cliffs by the hundreds, herding led to death. A supply of buffalo hides and meat for the oncoming winter was driven by the overwhelming need for survival against all odds.

People do everything they can to survive. Whoddathunkit?

And it goes ’round and ’round.
