CO2 concentration increases are not the cause of rising temperature, but an effect of rising temperature.
An independent researcher (Robbins, 2025) has reviewed recent research that suggests at least “80% or more of the [modern CO2] increase is of natural origin.”
This is because “changes in atmospheric temperature are an ‘effect’ of changes in SSTs and not a ’cause’ as some might advocate.”

Similar conclusions are found in a paper published in the same peer-reviewed journal last year (Ato, 2024).
“SST [sea surface temperature] has been the determinant of the annual changes in atmospheric CO2 concentrations and […] anthropogenic emissions have been irrelevant in this process…”

Thanks for the find, and summary thereof.
Bernard Robbins uses the words “the global climate”. To me, this phraseology is odd. Being old-school and a fan of the botany (vegetation) based climates of Wladimir Köppen, the idea the the world has a climate just doesn’t work.
Where I live the climate is classified as Csa by the Köppen-Geiger system.
Thanks for posting this. Several of the charts in Robbins,2025 match closely to those in my analyses of Mauna Loa CO2 and UAH Global anomalies.

We can have global climate models, but they are very crude and some people not even agree with that idea.
The huge uncertainty of the global climate models is caused, just as you say, by very different regional climates.

wheras it is correctto asribe rise in CO2 conc to rise in SST it would be nice to have a cause ascribed tot rise in SST ! increased solar activity ? less cloud cover ?
