William ‘Wikipedia’ Connelley Displays His True Class, Labels Distinguished Scientist Lennart Bengtsson “A Crybaby”

Wikipedia editor William Connelley displayed his true colors and confirmed the reason why Wikipedia is an unreliable source of information when it comes to climate science: extreme bias by editors.

Ironically, Mr. Revisionist himself complained yesterday in a reader comment at NTZ about one of his other comments being delayed here at NTZ, demanding to know why his childish taunting of distinguished climate scientist Lennart Bengtsson was being held up (spam filter).

Sorry, but I need to sleep too, and so sometimes reader comments caught in the filter have to wait till morning.

Naturally, we do not want the king of climate science revisionism to get the feeling that he himself is being censored, and so I’ve decided to upgrade his comment to a post as a gesture of good will:

Connelly

Mr. Connelly of course is just being plain childish on the current issue. Lennart Bengtsson, former director of the prestigious Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) in Hamburg, is hardly a meek man who has a history of being “someone who fades easily”. Rather he is someone who has a way of always standing out:

1986: Julius von Hann Gold Medal of the Austrian Society for Meteorology
1990: Körber Prize for European Science (together with Bert Bolin and Klaus Ferdinand Hasselmann)
1996: Milutin Milanković Medal of the European Geophysical Society (EGU)
1998: Environmental Prize of the Bundesstiftung Umwelt as a member of the working group Climate Research of the MPI-M
2005: Descartes-Prize as a member of the CECA (climate and environmental change in the Arctic) working group (together with Leonid Bobylew and Ola M. Johannessen)
2006: International Meteorological Organization (IMO) Prize of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
2007: Rossby Prize of the Swedish Geophysical Society (SGS)
2009: Alfred Wegener Medal

I believe we haven’t heard the last of Bengtsson by any means.

Finally, I’d be the last to hold back such a comment as that made by Connelley above because it clearly reveals and confirms everything we’ve always suspected of many in the alarmist camp and what is really behind Bengtsson’s resignation. Draw your own conclusions.

Connolley is just a sad balding middle class person who spends his spare time rowing down the river in Cambridge with all the other hooray henrys.

When I looked he had done nothing for the environment – quite the reverse – he was spending all that money earnt in the fossil fuel economy he so hates, building a massive extension.

I think his kids go to a private school, he flies off on holidays, he’s about as green as concrete.

I couldn’t find a single thing about this guy that anyone could admire. Perhaps that is why he’s so nasty online – secretly he also despises himself?

  2. Mike Haseler (Scottish Sceptic)

And – for someone who likes to portray himself as some kind of “climate scientist” – I was truly shocked to find he doesn’t have any qualification of a scientific nature.

  3. Streetcred

I won’t hold back on Connelly either … William Connelly, El Supremo Revisionista de Wiki, is a f’wit.

No professional scientist or engineer taught standard physics agrees with the mistake at the heart of Climate Alchemy, the claim that IR Irradiance, measured by a ‘pyrgeometer’, is a real energy flux.

It is a potential energy term. With other mistakes, it leads to exaggeration of lower atmosphere heating by c. 60%. Marxist non-scientists like Connolley are using this incorrect science to justify totalitarian World Government.

The situation at present is a desperate attempt to maintain the image that the science is coherent and correct. We do not have a science. There is near zero CO2-AGW, proved empirically and, if you look at real atmospheric control systems, theoretically.

    > portray himself as some kind of “climate scientist”

I’m a software engineer. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:William_M._Connolley amongst other places. If our host had read that, or indeed the WUWT article he links to, he might have managed to spell my name correctly. Or get my title right. But such little courtesies mean nothing over here. Indeed, Chaucer-like, PG doesn’t even manage consistent spelling.

    > what is really behind Bengtsson’s resignation

Well, we don’t know, do we. Come on! *Demand* that he publish all those oh-so-terrible emails. Sunshine is the best disinfectant, isn’t that your mantra? Why are you holding back?

“But such little courtesies mean nothing over here.”

Boo-hooo, pay more respect to the green weeny with the booksized wikipedia bio! Billyboy, has Brigade Harvester Boris written it for you?

    2. Teddi

No Connelley, you are a person who has injected your personal cult bias into editing Wiki climate related topics for too long. And in doing so are complicit in the crime of the AGW scam. You will one day be dragged out from under the rock where you exist and exposed for the phony green activist that you really are…

    3. Jeremy Poynton

Software engineer and random abuser of those who don’t conform to your way of thinking. How does that work, William? Still, well done you for finding time to get away from your constant Wikipedia editing to abuse people here. How pathetic is that?

If you were a competent software engineer, you’d understand the concept of “human in the loop”. Especially given that the operation of this blog has been explained (to you) several times. So quit whining about being placed in moderation and your comments “disappearing”. The quasi-chaotic behaviour is purely down to the efforts of software “engineers”.

      Further, you wrote:

*Demand* that he publish all those oh-so-terrible emails.

      What emails?

The only emails mentioned, other than by you, are the ones that’ve been published (e.g.).

      Stop making up stuff, Sunshine.

      1. William Connolley

        > What emails?

The ones that have caused “such an enormous world-wide pressure” to LB. At least, I assume he received all this pressure by email. Though now you mention it, this is yet another gap in his story – we’ve no idea, really. But you don’t care. You’ve no interest is what was actually emailed or said to him – you’d rather have his (possibly inaccurate) paraphrase.

        1. Aard Knox

“I assume he received all this pressure by email.”
And that no doubt explains the unreliability of Wikipedia. Too many assumptions leading to dodgy information.

          1. Jay

What does any of this have to do with how reliable Wikipedia is?

          2. DirkH

It has Connolley to do with it.

          3. Jay

I don’t understand. Wikipedia relies on actual citations and external sources. You can’t put speculation in there, while WC did post speculation here. Obviously you can’t expect people to behave the exact same way in all contexts. Are you saying that you would write in the exact same way in a letter to a friend, and in a newspaper article?

          4. DirkH

Jay; Connolley and his friends will suppress any objective information about climate sceptics and often delete their bios under the pretense of “irrelevance” while giving space to any and all warmist conjecture.

I agree that they operate a bit more subtle than say Goebbels. What they do can best be classified as Gre propaganda, not Black propaganda.

This all passes under the “NPOV” policy of wikipedia. If you think “N” means “Neutral” as in “we don’t have an axe to grind” I have a bridge you might be interested in.

          5. Ed Caryl

The citations and external sources that are selected can be dodgy. There are plenty of those available, especially in climate “science”.

          6. Jay

They are dodgy because they don’t agree with you?

Most of climate science is simply trolling; which is profitable for the “scientist” trolls. Run a model of something, observe a wiggle up or down 50 years in the future, write “climate change will make lizards shrink!” or whatever the wiggle says, “more research is needed”; rinse, leather, repeat.

Yes, climate models are trolling. Because they have never been validated. Good enough for Connolley and the wikipedia though.

    2. BillE

If “we don’t know” what is really behind LB’s resignation why did you make the definitive statement

“The GWPF fooled LB, but now he has woken up. Naturally, he’s embarrassed, and isn’t about to admit that he made a stupid mistake.”

Yes, I know you and I are software engineers. And I think I even managed to spell your name correctly on your visits to WUWT.

I’m sure glad I don’t work with you.

William doesn’t know the meaning of the word “courtousy”, yet he “demands” it of others. He demands we “think”, another word of which he doesn’t know the meaning. Group-think doesn’t count. I get cought in the spam filter occasionally myself. As I am six time zones behind Pierre, I have the courtousy to know he is sleeping. Please grow up, William. Your attitude, and that of your ilk, is extremely tiresome. Pierre calls you Winston because you are exactly like the Winston in “1984” without the doubts.

William Connolley a Software engineer my ass. I have been a software engineer, software architect, hardware engineer, for over 30 years, and I can tell you from reading Connolley’s comments, he hasn’t the first clue what software engineering (or any other engineering) is. Further, you really expect me to believe Connolley’s bio or anything posted on his WiKi page? I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I may have been born at night, but it sure wasn’t last night. Connolley is just another Cook, a “self proclaimed” something or another. Just another poser trying to assert himself as a person in control. Pffffttt… Connolley should be sitting in jail between James Hansen and John Cook.

P.S. to William Connolley, excuse me if I didn’t spell your name correctly, but quite frankly I could give a rats ass about you, your name, or your opinions.

    Wikipedia in a nutshell.

It’s not just their lack of accuracy on “climate change” we have to worry about.

  12. Charlie O.

There was a time when a distinguished scientist such Dr. Bengtsson would be treated with the dignity and respect that he so richly deserves. Perhaps it is reasonable to assume that the name-calling and bullying, so ably demonstrated by Mr. Connolley, is an example of what Dr. Bengtsson has been forced to endure. You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. Connolley; you are not a gentleman.

  13. nightspore

Will’m may not know much about climatology, but he certainly knows how to keep tabs on deniers. Of course popping up like a jack-in-the-box to bestow another dollop of obnoxiousness doesn’t necessarily help the cause.

I love the line, “little courtesies mean nothing over here” – what a follow-up to the original SAesq vulgarity! (We know, Bill, we know, stuermer types have feelings too!)

  14. John F. Hultquist

We live in Washington State but are not members of the “Left Coast” of the USA (we call ours the dry side). However, my time zone is 9 hours out of phase with Pierre’s time and web management issues. I must be a saint. I live with this without psychiatric disorder developing.

This is why I don’t allow my students to use Wikipedia as a reference. Nor am I the only one – even many liberal professors at my community college shy away from such a dishonest and unreliable source.

Of course, in the bearded Spock universe William Connelley comes from this refusal will be seen as a compliment.

O/T Martin Schulz , future god king of EU, takes EU money for being in EU parliament sessions when he’s in fact absent on his “election” campaign (as we know).
Broder was forced to not mention it during TV show in state media. Writes about it here. SPD wants to prevent at all costs that the wider public gets to know it.

    http://www.welt.de/debatte/henryk-m-broder/article128042895/Als-ich-Plasberg-die-Angst-vor-der-SPD-ansah.html

While future EU god king Schulz is being protected by his media thugs, Pro NRW member Uckermann got ruthlessly persecuted for 70 Euros difference in his party’s accounting for Cologne parliament compensation.

    Gesinnungsrepublik.
