Reader Bernd Felsche reminds us of this excellent post by Christoper Hitchens here, which is indeed worth bringing up again today, particularly in light of the dark closed minds that have lately attempted to claim that no matter what the weather does today, man is the culprit.
An identical mindset infected so called leading intellectuals back during the Little Ice Age. As Dr. Baliunas explains, during the Medieval Warm Period, Europe enjoyed a warm climate, which allowed society to flourish.
But around the 15th century, the Little Ice Age began and the weather deteriorated. Agriculture suffered and people starved. The low-point was from 1550 to 1700. The intellectuals back then were sure it was man’s fault. A mass wave a institutionally legalized executions ensued.

How unusual was this very intense period of the Little Ice Age? On the afternoon of August 3rd, 1562, a thunderstorm struck Central Europe across a front several hundred km long. After raging for several hours, the storm unleashed a terrific hail that continued until midnight. It destroyed crops. It destroyed vineyards, birds and unprotected horses and cows. Dirists noticed something we hear today. They said for 100 years such a storm had never been seen. The storm was deemed so unusual in this period of superstition, that it had to be unnatural; it had to be supernatural.
Thus superstition and witchcraft bred a precautionary response: Eradicate those responsible for the storm and the period of new storminess. Now it was well known that people could cook weather with the help of Satan. So thus did extreme conditions of the severest part of the Little Ice Age contribute to Europe’s most horrific period of mass executions a witch trials. This was completely legal and it was undertaken, administered by highly educated upper social strata. These were institutionally legalized executions for sorcery.”

She’s a hero. How long must we wait until she and Willie Soon and Richard Lintzen, Bob Carter, and so on, get the recognition they deserve.
AGW is the ‘orthodoxy’, Mann and Hansen and various other eco-loons would lead an Inquisition, if they thought they could get away with it.
I am not a denier, there is nothing to deny, weather happens, climate changes.
I am in awe of the power of nature and of, the Universe and want to (try to) understand it, science is never ‘settled’.
I am not a sceptic, to be sceptic, gives their cause (AGW) credence, authenticity and actuality.
They are the deniers, they (AGW alarmists) deny natural atmospheric variation and the solar influence and in doing so, deny pure and empirical science.
We are the realists, we can never be alarmists.
Ideology, dogma and pedantry now infest this conjecture, that is when, man lowers himself and the root of all evil is: money.
Science has been defenestrated, AGW – sorcery? You bet.
IDIOCRACY
The USA this month, during the third and probably coldest NH winter on a role and a fast cooling planet, joined the UN IPCC COP 16 Climate Treaty signed at Cancún, Mexico.
We now have descended to the same level of our ancestors in Medieval Europe who burned witches because a hail storm destroyed the crops and a black cat was sighted in front of their house.
Our political establishment, not capable of controlling the state deficit or the rise of health care insurance premiums, claim they can control the thermostat of the planet by two or three degrees Celsius depending on the political consensus and the amount of CO2 we are willing to compensate.
And our apathetic public happily nods yes, pays the ever rising energy bills and watches another 100 billion dollars of tax money from Western countries disappear in the “green hole”.
Climate scientists now tell us that this cold winter is a clear sign of Global Warming and the only way to stop this warming requires nothing less but the complete de-industrialization of the West and a dramatic and fundamental change of our life styles.
Let it be clear to any person that the true objective behind the Climate Treaty is the establishment of a Global Government that takes control without any representation.
For Europeans this is nothing new because they are already governed without representation (although most of them still have to find out).
But for Americans this is all new.
The price to pay by billions of people will be no other than the price that was paid by those who perished in the Russian Goelags or the Killing Fields of Cambodja.
The only difference will be the numbers.
If we don’t stop this IDIOCRACY in it’s track and start pouring some serious money and effort in real education of our youth instead of the current propaganda, we will witness the biggest genocide in history.
Until that happens we will be living in the biggest madhouse on the planet where professional idiots and green cloaked socialists will continue to steel our lives and our money.

Piers Corbyn believes that the last three winters could be the harbinger of a mini ice age that could be upon us by 2035, and that it could start to be colder than at any time in the last 200 years. He goes on to speculate that a genuine ice age might then settle in, since an ice age is now cyclically overdue.
I think his theories hold water (Piers), I hope though, it is not true but the science points to a big cooling, a new LIA maybe?
A new Ice Age has always been the big sword of Damocles that has been hanging over humanity ever since the last one ended and mankind then populated the freed areas. In that respect any AGW that actually occurs due to CO2 should be welcomed not frightened in terms of avoiding that mass habitat destroying fate.
He also predicted the Pakistan Floods and the Moscow Heatwave so looking at what the Sun is doing seems a good bet for medium term weather prediction at the very least.
