The results of Berlin’s Climate Neutrality By 2030 referendum tell us that FFF and Last Generation are fringe movements, remote of even Berlin’s mainstream.
It’ll take a longtime for the radical climate activists to recover from this major setback
The movement’s leaders reacted in disbelief and sourly to the defeat, as Twitter account holder Georg tweeted:
Da haben Luisa und ihre Klima-Kreuzritter wohl nicht damit gerechnet, dass 85% mit NEIN stimmen oder erst gar nicht zur Abstimmung gehen.

Crushing defeat
Last Sunday’s “Berlin Climate Neutrality By 2030” referendum failed resoundingly despite the more than a million euros spent in a massive run-up campaign that included plastering the city with posters, concerts by famous performers, huge support and propaganda by the media and hefty donations coming from left wing activists from the east and west coasts of USA.
Once the dust of the referendum had settled, it emerged that the “yes” side fell way short of the quorum 608,000 votes needed to pass the measure. Only 442,210 cast a vote in favor, which represents only 18% of Berlin’s eligible voters. The activists expected a far greater turnout. 82% refused to lend any support.
Berlin’s rejection of the climate neutrality by 2030 mandate is a massive body blow to the the radical Fridays for Future and Last Generation movement in Germany, and it will take months for the radicals to recover, it ever, from this setback.
The Berlin initiative to make the city climate neutral by 2030 was led by rich, upper class youths like Luisa “Longhaul” Neubauer. But Berliners, having been harassed for months by activists gluing themselves to the streets and blocking traffic, saw the folly of the initiative and the high costs it would entail politically and financially. They decided resoundingly they’d wanted no part of it.
Lashing out at the majority
The agony of referendum defeat was palpable as some of its leaders reacted by lashing out and insulting those who refused to vote “yes”, In a video, movement co-leader Luisa Neubauer sank into cynical accusations against the majority, even calling the uncooperative Berliners “fossil cynics” and “climate destroyers”.
Neubauer added: “There are forces in this city that are doing everything to get the last spark of climate destruction out.” In Neubauer’s view these forces include the vast 82% of Berliners who refused to vote “yes”. So troublesome democracy can be.
“Bubble has finally burst”
Germany’s Pleiteticker here commented on the Berlin referendum:
Social Democrat Dario Schramm wept on Twitter at the gloating that would now come from the other side. But he and other supporters of the green ban politics need not be surprised. For years they have been spreading their ideas of good politics for years in a self-righteous, arrogant and sometimes aggressive manner.
They, mostly members of the upper middle class, have declared war on the lower and lower middle class with their destructive climate measures. Outside the Berlin political bubble and the other urban feel-good oases of Germany, the Neubauers of this world never possessed much support. And now the bubble has finally burst. In the Marzahn, Köpenick and Lichtenberg districts, the majority of voters voted against the referendum. The normal working population of Berlin decided against the journalistic and political elite.”
But don’t expect the climate radicals to go away. They’ll be back at it soon enough.
Poor Louise Neubauer added: “There are forces in this city that are doing everything to get the last spark of climate destruction out.”
Fiery talk indeed!
Now, this news has probably not yet reached Dr. Thunberg’s favorite Ocean Race Yacht now rounding Cape Horn – Team Malizia (not onboard) :

These are incredible Yachts doing 30.40 knots over 12000 miles around Antarctica.
I hope they keep the moral up, this is dangerous waters, the Roaring Forties!
My grandfather, when young, went around Cape Horn in a sailing ship. Standing on the first cross-tree of the foremast (40 feet -12.2 metres above the deck) with an arm around the mast, he noticed that when the ship went into a trough the waves were higher than the fore-mast. Also that when the ship rolled he could see water directly below (either side) about halfway through the roll.
When he (cautiously) got back to the deck, the second mate congratulated him on getting such smooth weather for his first trip around the Horn along with details of the previous trip which convinced my grandfather to become very interested in steam engines as steam ships didn’t (then) go around the Horn.
The self-righteous warmists couldn’t care less whether 82% or even 99% don’t support them. They know what’s good for us and they will keep ploughing on because they are, at their core, totalitarians. And they seem to control the levers of power.
What has happened in Germany will happen in the U.S. if voters don’t smarten up.
It is not in the control of the voters as no matter how many votes they give to Republicans, the DemoTwats will make up some more afterwards to ensure they win. The sad thing is that many in the Republican party refuse to see the fraud that is going on. I have been astonished at how corrupt the US elections are. It is an insult to banana republics to say they are akin to them as theirs are more honest.

I hope enough voters in the U.S. realize what’s going on in Germany and follow German voters, not the enviro-kooks. It’s as if Democrats in the U.S. are trying to adopt the same wacky green energy policies of the German government.
No the eco-nutters won’t go away, they are like a cancer that will have to be cut out.
Yes. As Pierre writes in the last sentence of the post – ”… don’t expect the climate radicals to go away. They’ll be back at it soon enough.”
Indeed. The persistence of fools defies all logic.

It is the first time in the history of meteorological observations that the daytime temperature did not exceed 40 degrees Fahrenheit during the month of March in my state in the US and it isn’t going to happen in the next two days. The weather is another radical gone from ludicrous speed to plaid, it seems that way, anyhow.
On March 31st in 1997 the temperature was a balmy 72 degrees F. Comet Hale-Bopp was in the sky back then.
On this date in 1966 the record high was set at 70 degrees F.
The temp outside right now is 22 degrees F.
Anecdotal, I know, but facts don’t budge.
Germans should vote to mandate the sun to heat up the earth, pronto.
Mother Nature is in control and Old Man Winter is teaching us a thing or two about a thing or two.
Voting won’t change any of it.
Congratulations, Germans! You have won a small victory over stupidity.
Luisa-Marie Neubauer is responsible for more CO2 in the atmosphere in her short 26-year life than I have been in nearly 80.
She looks bright enough. I wonder what went wrong?
Climate fervor, a recognizable offshoot of environmentalism, appears to be another such atheistic religion, highly charged with doctrine, dogma, high priests, penitents, militancy, beatification, sin, excommunication, damnation and other-worldly (and sometimes worldly) rewards. Maybe it would help clear the air if we stopped treating it like politics.

I am cautiously pleased that Berliners want no truck with the climate change loonies.
Who has paid for “the more than a million euros spent in a massive run-up campaign that included plastering the city with posters, concerts by famous performers, huge support and propaganda by the media”? Does anyone know?
I ask because whoever they are, they are globalists and therefore have deep pockets, and hence will not skulk away from this defeat but surface in another European city which mayhap has not the pragmatism Berlin has.
But anyway until then, let us savour this.

The climate freaks are mentally ill minions of the powerful.
They are leeches on society and should be removed.
“Berliners, having been harassed for months by activists gluing themselves to the streets and blocking traffic, saw the folly of the initiative and the high costs it would entail politically and financially. They decided resoundingly they’d wanted no part of it.”
Not surprising that Berliners want no part in the future that’s coming to them. It totally sucks, and it’s absolutely true that the political and financial costs would be enormous. The issue is, that future is coming to them anyway. They may want a better future, but it isn’t available. Certainly not until they start realising that what they’re hoping for and taking for granted is not an available option. You’d think they’d start getting the memo when Nord Stream got blown up, but clearly not. That was just the appetizer. It only gets worse from here on.
To be more specific, the financial costs include… oh, merely all the money in the world. The very idea of what is sound money is changing right now. Like goldbugs like to go on about, money needs to be backed by something. It’s just that gold isn’t the only option, like goldbugs like to think. Let’s break it down to baby talk. There are three kinds of property rights:
1) Property of physical things. This gives rise to commodity money (positive). Typically represented by coins.
2) Property of debt. Debt can be transferred and therefore owned. This gives rise to fiat money (negative). Typically represented by bills/bank notes.
3) Property of labor and intellectual property. Services of any sort can be bought and sold. This gives rise to credit/favor/soft power money (zero). This explains expressions such as “full faith and credit of…” Gold, since these days is only used as a valuable metal, may be considered as credit, rather than commodity money.
It used to be the case that Western countries had plenty of commodities, plenty of labor, and a justified expectation of increased wealth in the future, which entirely justified taking on debt indefinitely. But the balance of things has changed. Most of the commodities in Western countries have been depleted. There is still plenty of labor, but too much of it on specialised services that are effectively a luxury and in hard times people will happily do without. And there is no longer a good justification to think that wealth will increase in the future. Climate change is just one of the excellent reasons to think so. Peak oil and gas is another. Lack of new places that can be colonised and developed is another. All the low hanging fruit has been picked, and a good portion of the higher fruit as well.
As for the political costs, it should be obvious by now that the political system we have now has resoundingly failed. And even worse, there is no clear alternative because we have collectively agreed that what makes for a good leader is a talent to say what people want to hear, as opposed to the truth as can be discerned by people who deal in the physical limits of things, that is, engineers. And for as long as people are determined to listen only to what they want to hear, the Earth will continue slapping people on the face, till people listen.
