USA’s CO2 Emissions Plunge 7%!

Well at least President Barack Obama is reaching his climate protection targets by cutting CO2 emissions like he promised he would. The USA’s CO2 emissions fell a whopping 7% last year.

While part of the reductions came from energy conservation and more efficient technology, a big part came from the nasty economic slowdown.

Heck, at the current rate the USA will be practically carbon-free by 2020! Not everybody thinks there’s been an economic price and pain. Take Joe Romm for example. The USA Today writes:

Romm says the CO2 decrease, larger than previously expected by the EIA, shows that such reductions are possible without harming the U.S. economy.

Say what! 10% of the workforce is idle and 20% is under-employed. Just how stupid can one possibly be?

Sadly it seems that bad economic conditions in a highly industrialized nation like the US results in lower CO2 emmissions. It isn’t much of a stretch to figure out that government programs to forcibly throttle down CO2 output will likewise throttle economic output. Sorry – there is no “green” bonanza. Reduce economic output – reduce CO2; reduce CO2 (by force); reduce economic output.

P Gosselin concludes the article with an exasperated question: “Just how stupid can one possibly be?” It is very simple to answer. I once read some years back an article by Dr. Don Felix Sarda Y Salvany entitled “Liberalismo es pecado” published in 1886. The English translation is easily avaiable at http://www.liberalismisasin.com/. Additionnally, there is also a reference to another work by one Dr. Lyle Rossiter, Jr., M.D., entitled “Modern Liberalism Is A Form Of Mental Illness” where he asserts “modern liberalism’s irrationality [as] being the product of psychopathology: a massive transference neurosis acted out in the world’s political arenas, with devastating effects on the institutions of liberty”. Disclaimer: I haven’t read it yet. These represent a scratching, if you will, of the surface of a few of the rather many perspectives by which we may approach a casual study of this sad state of disorganized thinking. It is rather puzzling that certain segments of the “educated?/political class” have contracted this debilitating disorder of not being able to see things as they truly are. Just today, the usual suspects operating the media in the US are celebrating the increase in unemployment from 9.7% to 9.9% as a positive and proof that the economy has been in a rebound for the past 10 months. I suspect we have a bouillabaisse of ideological thought control inculcated at the secondary and university levels, a bit of Rommel’s if you tell a lie often enough and long enough, you end up believing it. And remember, the bigger the distortion, the misspeak, the LIE (oh my, how insenstive of me) the better!

Actually, your second linkage is identical to the first, as the only practical way to force CO2 emissions down is to reduce economic output by imposing inefficiencies.

Yes, we have no (green) bonanza!

Obviously he misspoke. He meant to say, “by”, not “without”.
