I don’t have any solid information on the Kelud volcano’s explosivity index, but preliminary indications show it may have a VEI of 3, possibly 4. The plume has reached 17 km.
This would have very little impact on climate.
But still, look for desperate warmists to seize upon it and to blame it for cooling over the next year or two, thus buying a few more months of precious little time for which to sustain their climate fraud.
From Reuters…
More than 100,000 people fled their homes and flights were grounded across most of Indonesia’s densely populated island of Java on Friday after a volcanic eruption sent a huge plume of ash and sand 17 km (10 miles) into the air.
The ash cloud from Thursday night’s eruption of Mount Kelud in the province of East Java moved west over the island, forcing the closure of seven airports and stranding thousands of passengers. The only major airports still operating on Java were two in the capital, Jakarta. […]

We have snow in the USA, rain and floods in the UK, and now volcanos erupting.
Who can deny that Mother Gaia is angry with us?
Climate change is real and there is nothing a little offering or sacrifice, like a carbon tax, won’t fix. We must appease the Gods! (sarc off)
I am sorry to hear about this, I just hope the people are safe.
Pierre……you know better. It would have to be “Mt. Pinutobo” size to cool temperatures off for even a year or two like Pinutobo did in the early 1990’s.
You coal dust guys are really scarmbling these days aren’t you………:)
Buffy, thanks for asking, we’re laid back and listen to the scurrying climate scientists making their contradictory excuses for the failure of their junk theory. BTW who pays you? You don’t have the faintest clue of real data and you are resistant to learning; what makes you appear here every day if not a paycheck? Are you a Cass Sunstein government troll?
I don’t think it’s going to have an impact. But I do think the warmists idiots are going to use it to explain the lack of temperature rise.
What’s with Buddy? You said it was to small to cause cooling, PG. Or is it that he doesn’t believe the warmists will latch onto it as the excuse for the pause? They already have.

Buddy is more often 180 degrees off. Let’s wait for his mentor.
The volcanologists are saying it looks similar to the 1990 eruption, which was VEI 4.
The 1991 Pinatubo eruption by contrast was VEI 6. It did have a measurable effect on global temperature.
The Volcanic Explosivity Index is an exponential index like the Richter scale, so the difference between VEI 4 and 6 is two orders of magnitude.
I doubt this new Kelut eruption will have much climatic effect unless it gets a lot bigger.
Hi Peirre
This is Indonesia’s second big eruption in two weeks. Mt Sinabung erupted also erupted at the beginning of the month, sadly killing 16 people. With a number of over Indonesian volcanoes which were also placed on alert:

Mt Tungurahua in Ecuador also erupted in a big way on the 1st of February. This is link is in Spanish. But the images and videos are pretty spectacular!

Quite a lot of Ecuador’s farming land has been covered in Ash!
We also have a lot of activity in Kamchatka in Russia, were some of the biggest land volcanoes in the world reside:

We seem to have an awful lot of Volcanoes erupting at the moment. Which over the coming months, must start to effect the climate!
Impact on climate has a lot to do with how much of the aerosols make it into the stratosphere.
