Public Interest In Climate Protection Wanes (Again!) in Germany – Rahmstorf Whines

Despite all the media über-hype about this year’s “weather extremes”, which are normal to begin with, and the upcoming Cancun Conference, the German index of public interest on climate protection fell yet again during the 3rd quarter of 2010, from 56 to 55, according to the co2online GmbH, a program set up by the German Ministry for the Environment.

Public interest in climate protection continues to wane in Germany.

The reason for the drop was due to the lack of interest by the media in reporting on climate change. The public is bored by the topic.

The Climate Barometer is published every quarter and is based on the evaluation of 4 indicators, which are converted to form the Climate Barometer index.

Experts complained about the continued wane in public interest. Thomas Hirsch of the organisation: Bread for the World:

In the energy debate, climate protection is an issue that was very much overshadowed by the recent issue of nuclear power in Germany.

Prof Dr Stefan Rahmstorf, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research:

Flooding in Pakistan and heatwave in Russia brought the topic in the media, but incredibly little. There is hardly any discussion on the causes of such extreme events.

I can’t help Mr Hirsch, but perhaps I can give Dr Rahmstorf, Prince of Panic, some background on extreme weather events and their causes.

Cyclones globally are near record lows and have been falling 20 years. Thus it can’t be because of global warming. So get a life Dr Rahmstorf. You’re fooling no one.

    Pierre,
I have a new article, in this same vein, ready to post, but I can’t (for a reason known only to the internet gods) send email from here. You will need to wait until the weekend and I get to a location with a proper internet connection.

Reply: Hi Ed! Nice to hear from you again. No problem this weekend. I’m away from home right now, and I’m having some difficulties picking up my e-mails on my private account. Seems to be a server problem and so I hope it works tomorrow. Be home on Friday and looking forward to posting your next essay. -PG

I suppose you can only pile on the F.U.D. spin so long.

Here’s a writeup in Die Zeit that first shocked me because it is so anti-industrial and anti-growth; until i realized that a very small disclaimer says
    “Fritz Kuhn

Der 55-Jährige ist Stellvertretender Vorsitzender der Bundestagsfraktion der Grünen

So it’s written by a Green Top Honcho.
Anyway, i submit it here because it gives an insight into their way of thinking. This is a Green trying to advertise his belief system to the non-believers. (Die Zeit is usually rather centre-right)

Caveat: A lot of weasel words in there – but i think – this is the way these persons are thinking.

you have a link? I looked at the homepage of Die Zeit…but found nothing regarding Fritz Kuhn.

I hope with all my being, that the German public are finally picking up on the fact that for many years, the politicians have been lying, obfuscating and pushing a conjecture (CAGW) which does not stand the scrutiny of truthful observation and empirical science.

    Realism strikes home maybe?

Reich Chancellor, Frau Merkel has woken up on other matters, is she about to slide on AGW??

How that would make me laugh! Though, err – she is a physicist – so get real Angie baby and read some real science and drop the post normal BS.

PS, PG, some more bird stuff here, notice date:>)

    The don’t have to.
In most governments all measures planned for are in place and they don’t have to move any further into their agenda because they are out of money.

Before you know it you will be paying carbon taxes for flying trips and the next time you buy a car you’re offered a useless battery powered one or the Opel Optera, a rolling generator with a battery pack.

The electric car doesn’t have the range and the driving generator will come with a maintenance bill that only the happy few can afford.
